Frequently Asked Questions

What is the Klap MCP server?

A Model Context Protocol server that gives AI agents Klap's video tools: finding the best moments of a long video, cutting them into captioned and reframed shorts, cutting the moments you describe, translating captions, exporting MP4s and scheduling posts. Any MCP client can call it, so you can clip and post videos from the assistant or editor you already use.

Which clients and agents does it work with?

Claude Code, Claude on the web and desktop, Cursor, VS Code, ChatGPT in developer mode, Windsurf, Codex, and any other client that supports remote MCP servers with OAuth. The tools are the same everywhere; only the way you add the server differs.

Do I need an API key?

No. You sign in with your Klap account once, through OAuth, and your agent acts on your account. API keys are for Klap's REST API, which you call from your own code.

What videos can I use?

Links to YouTube, Twitch, Kick and Vimeo videos, Google Drive and Dropbox files, direct links to video files, and video files on your computer (MP4, MOV or WebM, up to 10 GB): agents with a terminal, like Claude Code, upload them with create_upload.

How much does it cost?

Connecting is free. What your agent creates uses your Klap plan, exactly as on klap.app, and you can start with the free trial. Your agent can check what's left with get_usage.

How long does clipping take?

A few minutes for most videos, longer for multi-hour streams. The transcript is ready first, so your agent can start finding moments before the clips are done. An export takes about as long as the clip itself.

Can my agent post without asking me?

Klap's instructions tell agents to schedule or cancel a post only when you asked for it, after you confirm the clip, the accounts, the time and the caption. Clients like Claude also ask for your approval before calling a tool that publishes.

How is it different from Klap in Claude's connector directory?

The directory connector works with your own video files and shows your shorts as playable cards. This server adds everything else: video platform links, transcripts, clips cut from a description or exact times, translations, templates and managing scheduled posts. Both use the same Klap account.

Is my data private?

Your agent only reaches your own Klap account, through the access you granted. Klap never receives your conversations, only what each tool call needs. To disconnect, remove the server from your client.
